About Broadway on the Rhine River

Playbill Travel is proud to announce its second European river cruise, Broadway on the Rhine River, which takes place August 13-20, 2017. We begin our adventure in Basel and leisurely sail to Amsterdam, followed by an optional two-night post-cruise stay in Amsterdam.

Together we will discover the picturesque region of Alsace, whose combined French and German heritage has created unique world-renowned cuisine and palate pleasing wines. Beautiful red Geraniums decorate the windowsills of the brightly painted half-timbered houses, which line the cobblestone streets and quiet canals. We will explore the magnificent cities of Strasbourg and Cologne, whose Gothic cathedrals are among the most visited in Europe, and be inspired by the enchanting towns of Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and Rüdesheim.

While it is too early for talent to be announced, please note that at this point last spring we didn’t know our lineup for the Rhône cruise but asked our passengers to believe in our standards and we are very proud to report that on the Rhône cruise we now have a stellar line up. Please be certain we will, as always, have great entertainment and fun activities for all our friends and passengers.

The Rhine River journey will be a combination of excursions and luxuriating onboard as the ship gently passes the beautiful French and German villages, castles, vineyards and countryside. Our plans include copious amounts of wine from the region for your tasting and enlightenment. Our evening plans will have a minimum of 4 nights of concerts and three dinners celebrating the gourmet delicacies of the region. This cruise will be filled with great Broadway entertainment, our sommelier helping us understand the great wines of the region, a day of indescribably good chocolates and delicious foods of the Alsatian and Rhine Graben valleys.

Basel: Our journey begins in Basel, a Swiss hub of arts and culture with over 40 museums and a charming Old Town. Arrive at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiberg, where you will transfer to the ship.

Breisach: Venture ashore to the postcard-perfect wine villages of Kaysersberg and Riquewihr, or take a tour of Colmar’s historic center. Whichever you choose, be sure to taste the regional specialty flammekueche, a delectable flatbread topped with bacon and onions. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner

Kehl: The Alsatian town of Strasbourg has a UNESCO-designated city center with a magnificent Gothic cathedral and charming half-timbered houses. Take a canal cruise through the quaint Petite France district, or choose an Old Town walking tour that stops for pastries and coffee. Spend the afternoon at your leisure.

Mannheim (Speyer): The medieval town of Speyer has a compact historic center boasting the largest Romanesque cathedral in Europe, as well as the Continent’s oldest mikvah—a Jewish ritual bath. Alternatively, you can learn about unique wine vinegar aperitifs on an excursion to the Doktorenhof vinegar estate.

Rüdesheim: Explore Rüdesheim and its famously narrow Drosselgasse before enjoying a wine tasting at a 14th-century castle. Return to the ship for a cruise along the spectacular, UNESCO-protected Upper Middle Rhine—a 40-mile-long stretch of the river lined with castles. End the day with a guided stroll around the wine village of Boppard.

Koblenz: After a morning of scenic cruising, head ashore for a tour of Koblenz or an aerial tram ride up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which offers dazzling views of the Moselle and Rhine rivers.

Cologne: Weave through the narrow Old Town streets of Cologne en route to the city’s imposing Gothic cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside this centuries-old pilgrimage site is a shrine believed to hold relics of the Magi—the Bible’s fabled Three Kings. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Farewell Reception and Gala Dinner.

Amsterdam: After cruising through Switzerland, France and Germany; our trip concludes in Amsterdam—the capital of the Netherlands and one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe. Disembark the ship and transfer to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for your flight home, or extend your for two nights and discover the ‘Venice of the North’.
