Broadway on the High Seas 10: An Odyssey through the Greek Isles

Broadway on the High Seas 10 sailed roundtrip from Athens (Piraeus), the Greek capital city, and visited seven different islands filled with exquisite sights, fascinating excursions and beautiful beaches. Ponant's five-star expedition yacht returned to dock in Athens on July 1, 2019.

Playbill Travel guests and Broadway’s brightest stars traveled through the Greek Isles, beginning and ending in Athens, celebrating the 10th Playbill Travel cruise on the high seas. Guests enjoyed Athens' remarkable 3,000 years of history and treasure trove of Europe’s greatest artifacts and historical sites—the Acropolis, the Temple of Parthenon, the New Acropolis Museum, the Theatre of Herodes Atticus, the Ancient Agora, the Roman Agora.

After departing Athens (Piraeus), the ship visited seven islands, each filled with gorgeous sights, interesting tours, and beautiful beaches. Our journey took us to Patmos, followed by Paros, Santorini, Syros, Delos, Mykonos, Hydra, and then back to Athens (Piraeus) to finish our extraordinary trip.

And as always, Playbill Travel brought along a lineup featuring some of the most talented stars Broadway has to offer, this time aboard Ponant’s Le Lyrial. Travel + Leisure Magazine recently praised the ship, saying, “Sailing aboard Le Lyrial is like hitching a ride on the mega yacht of your richest, most adventurous French friend. Nothing about it feels like a conventional cruise ship.”

Ports of Call

Please reference the map for a visual of the direction of our journey through the Greek Isles. Below, you can find details of our destinations.

Athens (Piraeus)
The Greek capital city is located on the edge of the Saronic gulf, in the east of the country. It bears a plural name in reference to the first villages that surround the Acropolis.
Patmos
Patmos is one of the legendary, must-see islands in the Dodecanese. This is where Saint John resided, presumed author of the last book in the Bible.
Paros
Famous for its white marble, the island of Paros is located in the Cyclades. Along the quays of Parikia, its main town, you’ll see Byzantine churches and neoclassical buildings.
Santorini
Just 28 square miles and home to only around 13,600 Greek citizens, the island boasts two principal towns, Fira and Oia.
Syros
Located to the west of Mykonos, Syros is an attractive island in the Cyclades.
Mykonos
Nicknamed “little Venice”, Mykonos is famous for its Alefkandra district where houses are built right on the water’s edge.
Hydra
This unusual gem belonging to the Saronic islands is located to the east of the Peloponnese. There are no cars here.
